Dr Arif Jamal is Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law at the . His research and teaching interests are in the fields of law and religion, Muslim legal traditions, comparative law, and legal and political theory.

He has held visiting appointments at law schools in the US, Italy, and Hong Kong, as well as at the in London. He is the author of Islam, Law and the Modern State and has published widely. Dr Jamal is a past Vice Dean (Graduate Studies) at NUS Law and currently serves as joint Editor-in-Chief of the .

Dr Jamal has also held senior appointments in the institutions of the Ismaili community in Southeast Asia and internationally. He holds a BA from , an LLB from the and was called to the Bar of British Columbia. He then pursued the Graduate Programme in Islamic Studies and Humanities at 榴莲视频官方 of Ismaili Studies and earned an LLM degree from the (SOAS), University of London. Dr Jamal completed his PhD at the Faculty of Laws, (UCL).
